Air Products
Net-Zero Hydrogen Energy Complex
Announced in June 2021, this multi-billion dollar project is set to establish Western Canada’s premier hydrogen hub, with operations beginning around 2024. The complex will include a world-scale auto-thermal reformer (ATR) for hydrogen production, a liquefaction facility, and a power plant fueled entirely by hydrogen. It will capture over 95% of CO₂ emissions and store the captured gas via the Alberta Carbon Trunk Line. Hydrogen output is projected at 1,500 tonnes per day, with CO₂ capture capacity exceeding 3 million tonnes annually. Additionally, the project integrates a large-scale air separation unit and connects to Air Products’ existing hydrogen pipeline network to support regional clean energy needs.
