North London Waste Authority Carbon Capture Project

The North London Waste Authority (NLWA) is developing a carbon capture and storage (CCS) integration at the new Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) at Edmonton EcoPark as part of the North London Heat and Power Project. The CCS system is planned to capture CO₂ emissions from waste-to-energy operations, enabling permanent storage and significantly reducing the carbon footprint of residual waste treatment in north London. The project is designed with carbon capture readiness built into the new ERF, allowing future installation of capture equipment without major plant modifications. This approach positions Edmonton EcoPark as a flagship waste-to-energy with CCS deployment in the UK, supporting national net-zero targets and enabling low-carbon baseload energy generation from municipal waste.
