Syzygy Plasmonics
NovaSAF 1
NovaSAF 1 is a pioneering electrified biogas-to-sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) project being developed by Syzygy Plasmonics at Durazno, Uruguay, designed to convert biogas (methane and CO₂ from dairy waste) and renewable electricity into drop-in SAF using the company’s proprietary NovaSAF™ platform combined with micro-scale Fischer-Tropsch technology from Velocys and fuel upgrading from Honeywell UOP. The facility, which began front-end engineering and design (FEED) in 2025 and is targeting final investment decision in late 2025 with commercial operations scheduled for 2027, is expected to produce ~350,000+ gallons (~1,300,000 L, ~1,040 t) of SAF annually at ultra-low carbon intensity, displacing conventional jet fuel and helping meet regulatory SAF mandates. In a major commercial milestone, Syzygy’s subsidiary SP Developments Uruguay S.A. signed a binding six-year offtake agreement with Trafigura Pte Ltd for the entire production volume of NovaSAF-1, with first deliveries targeted in 2028 and options to expand into future projects. This long-term supply deal is intended to provide commercial certainty to secure financing and scale the technology, supporting the diversification of global SAF supply chains amid tightening feedstock availability and expanding low-carbon fuel mandates.
