EQUATE Petrochemical
Oyster Creek CO2 Utilization
he Oyster Creek project involves capturing crude carbon dioxide (CO₂) produced as a by-product of MEGlobal America Inc.’s ethylene glycol manufacturing facility in Oyster Creek, Texas, a plant operated by MEGlobal, a subsidiary of EQUATE Petrochemical Company. The CO₂ that would otherwise be vented is collected and conditioned for use and storage, forming part of a regional carbon management approach. To support utilization and reduction of emissions, Linde is expanding carbon dioxide handling capacity on the U.S. Gulf Coast by constructing a second CO₂ liquefaction facility at its Freeport, Texas site that will liquefy CO₂ captured from the Oyster Creek facility once it begins operations, currently planned for 2027. This infrastructure enables the captured carbon to be supplied reliably for industrial applications including beverage carbonation, food preservation, dry ice, chemical synthesis, and emerging low-carbon fuel markets, reducing net emissions by diverting CO₂ from the atmosphere and utilizing it in productive applications.
