Port-La-Nouvelle Ocean DAC Project

Captura is developing a direct ocean capture (DOC) project near Port-La-Nouvelle in southern France to supply captured CO₂ to SAF+ International Group’s planned eSAF facility. Using proprietary electrochemical technology, the project extracts dissolved carbon dioxide directly from seawater, enabling large-scale carbon removal without relying on traditional point-source industrial emissions. The captured CO₂ will be combined with renewable hydrogen to produce approximately 75,000 tonnes per year of synthetic aviation fuel and eNaphtha at the adjacent SAF+ facility. The project represents one of Europe’s first announced commercial integrations of ocean-based carbon capture with synthetic fuel production and highlights growing momentum around coupling carbon removal technologies with eFuel infrastructure to support aviation decarbonization under the EU’s RefuelEU Aviation mandates.
