Heimdal
Project Bantum
Heimdal and CapturePoint Solutions have launched Project Bantam, currently the largest operational direct air capture (DAC) facility in the United States, at CapturePoint’s Oklahoma Carbon Hub near Shidler, Oklahoma. The facility officially began operations in August 2024 and is designed to capture more than 5,000 metric tons of CO₂ from the atmosphere per year, making it the largest constructed DAC plant in the U.S. and the second largest in the world by capacity. Project Bantam uses Heimdal’s DAC technology, which relies on established materials and sorbents to extract CO₂ directly from ambient air and, initially, supply it for enhanced oil recovery (EOR) within CapturePoint’s existing carbon management infrastructure. Its launch also marks the Oklahoma Carbon Hub as the first multi-modal carbon management site in the world, combining DAC with industrial capture, CO₂ transportation, and storage operations. Heimdal and CapturePoint have plans to expand DAC capacity significantly in future phases and explore permanent deep geological storage, supporting future gigaton-scale carbon removal development in Oklahoma.
