Project Jacaranda
Sirona Technologies and Cella proudly unveil Project Jacaranda, an innovative pilot facility located in Kenya’s iconic Great Rift Valley at Lake Elementaita. By integrating solar energy, Direct Air Capture (DAC), and advanced carbon mineralization, this project captures CO₂ from the air and permanently stores it underground. This launch not only marks the fastest DAC pilot deployment in the world but also positions Kenya as a leader in next-generation carbon removal technology. In December 2024, Sirona became the fastest DAC company in the world to deploy a pilot plant, just 22 months after Sirona’s founding. Built in partnership with EDF, the pilot runs on a co-located solar farm and demonstrates the rapid deployment enables by our plug-and-play technology. Commercial operations will begin in 2026 with a capture capacity of 2,000 tons per year, scaling to over 100,000 tons by 2029. Dec 2024: 15 tons/year (completed) 2026: 2,000 tons/year 2027: 10,000 tons/year 2028: 40,000 tons/year 2029: 100,000 tons/year
