Purefield Ingredients Russell Carbon Capture Proejct
PureField Carbon Capture, LLC, a subsidiary of PureField Ingredients, is developing an integrated carbon capture, transportation, and geologic storage project at its Russell ethanol facility in central Kansas. The project will capture biogenic CO₂ from ethanol fermentation, compress it on site, and transport it via dedicated pipeline infrastructure to the Russell CO₂ Storage Complex, a Class VI geologic sequestration project designed for permanent underground storage. The system is designed to handle approximately 150,000 metric tons of CO₂ per year, creating a fully integrated capture-to-storage value chain at the Russell site. PureField has a long operating history with CO₂ recovery at Russell, having previously built a CO₂ purification and liquefaction facility to supply food and beverage markets, demonstrating early deployment of carbon capture infrastructure at the plant. The current project expands this capability from commercial utilization toward permanent geologic sequestration, with the Class VI permitting process advancing through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The Russell CO₂ Storage Complex is structured to support long-term injection operations and represents one of Kansas’ first commercial-scale ethanol-linked carbon storage developments.
