Queens Carbon Stockertown Pilot

Queens Carbon is constructing a 2,000 metric tonne per year demonstration pilot facility at Buzzi Unicem USA's Stockertown, Pennsylvania cement plant to produce its flagship Q-SCM, a carbon-neutral supplementary cementitious material that replaces up to 50% of conventional Portland cement in concrete. The Q-SCM is manufactured via Queens Carbon's proprietary hydrothermal chemistry using steam and pressure to drive the key chemical reactions at approximately half the process temperature required for conventional Portland cement production, using industry-standard, abundantly available raw materials. The product is ASTM-compliant and, in Queens Carbon's stated position, cost-competitive with conventional cement without a green premium; the modular design allows on-site parallel integration at existing cement plants. Beyond Q-SCM, Queens Carbon plans to develop Q-Cement, a next-generation hydraulic cement designed for 100% Portland cement replacement with an integrated pathway for low-cost carbon capture. Total funding is $30 million, comprising a $14.5 million ARPA-E SCALEUP grant awarded in Fall 2024.
