Rauma Mill Carbon Capture Project

Metsä Group has launched a carbon capture pilot at its Rauma pulp mill in Finland with technology partner Andritz, marking one of the first applications of the technology to pulp mill flue gases. The pilot, which began in June 2025, captures about one tonne of bio-based CO₂ per day and is testing energy use, capture efficiency, flue gas treatment, and product quality. Metsä is now evaluating a larger demonstration plant at the same site that could capture 30,000–100,000 tonnes annually but no decision has been made yet.
