Re-Tyre CO2
The Re-Tyre CO₂ project, coordinated by Saras SPA Raffinerie Sarde, has secured €9.3 million from the European Innovation Fund to construct a pyrolysis plant in Cagliari, Sardinia, with operations expected to begin in March 2029. The facility will process 10,000 tonnes of end-of-life tires (ELTs) annually, converting them into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), recycled carbon black, and gas used to power the plant. The project employs an optimized low-temperature pyrolysis process to improve oil yields and product quality, with the goal of producing over 2.6 million kg of kerosene annually, equivalent to fueling around 260,000 km of flights.
