Ruwais Blue Ammonia Project

ADNOC is developing a world-scale, 1 million-tonne-per-year low-carbon (blue) ammonia facility at the TA’ZIZ industrial hub in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi, producing ammonia from blue hydrogen with CO₂ captured and stored through ADNOC’s CCUS infrastructure. The project was first announced in 2021 and has since advanced through design and early development with participation from Mitsui, Fertiglobe, and GS Energy. In 2024, Fertiglobe awarded Tecnimont the construction contract, with construction mobilizing in Q3 2024 and operations targeted for 2027. Positioned to serve export markets, especially in Asia, the development marks a cornerstone of the UAE’s hydrogen and industrial decarbonization strategy, while leveraging existing gas supply, infrastructure, and global trade links at Ruwais.
