RWE Eemshaven Carbon Capture Project
The BECCUS project at RWE’s Eemshaven power plant in the Netherlands is a large-scale biomass carbon capture and storage (CCS) initiative designed to capture biogenic CO₂ from RWE’s biomass-fired electricity unit and permanently store it in offshore geological formations in the North Sea. By capturing carbon that was originally absorbed from the atmosphere by the biomass feedstock, the project aims to achieve net negative emissions, removing CO₂ from the carbon cycle rather than just reducing emissions.
