SABIC AN Jubail Ammonia-Urea CCS

The SABIC AN San VII Ammonia-Urea Complex is a large-scale ammonia and urea production facility with integrated post-combustion carbon capture being developed by SABIC Agri-Nutrients Company (SABIC AN, 50.1% owned by Saudi Basic Industries Corporation) at Jubail Industrial City in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province, as the company's seventh major project. Final Investment Decision was approved and the $3.465 billion engineering, procurement, and construction contract was awarded to South Korea's Samsung E&A Co., Ltd. on September 10, 2026. The complex will comprise one ammonia plant with an annual capacity of 1.2 million tonnes using Kellogg Brown & Root (KBR) technology, two urea plants with a combined annual capacity of 2.6 million tonnes using technologies licensed from Stamicarbon B.V. and thyssenkrupp Uhde Fertilizer Technology GmbH, and a post-combustion carbon capture unit using Shell Global Solutions International B.V. technology to reduce the operational emissions intensity of the ammonia and urea production.
