Shell Rotterdam Biofuels Project

Shell’s Rotterdam Biofuels Project was a large-scale renewable fuels facility planned at the Shell Energy and Chemicals Park Rotterdam to produce up to 820,000 tonnes per year of advanced biofuels, including sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel from waste feedstocks. Construction began in 2022, with major engineering contracts awarded to support plant delivery, but rising costs and weaker market economics led Shell to pause construction in 2024. In 2025, Shell confirmed it would not restart construction, effectively cancelling the project.
