Sizewell C DAC
Direct Air Capture Plans at the Port of Lowestoft (UK) involve a strategic agreement between the Port of Lowestoft, Sizewell C, and partner organizations to explore deploying direct air capture (DAC) technology on site. The initiative is focused on assessing the technical, economic and infrastructure feasibility of building and operating DAC facilities at the port that would capture CO₂ directly from the atmosphere. The captured CO₂ could then be transported and stored using regional carbon dioxide transport and storage infrastructure being developed as part of East Anglia’s decarbonisation plans, including Sizewell C’s involvement in broader UK negative emissions and CCUS networks. The agreement is intended to accelerate coordination and planning between stakeholders, leverage the Port of Lowestoft’s logistical advantages, and enable DAC deployment in support of the UK’s net-zero ambitions. The project remains in the early planning and feasibility stage, with future development subject to engineering studies, permitting, and funding pathways.
