Slite CCS

Heidelberg Materials’ Slite CCS project in Gotland aimed to capture 1.8 million tonnes of CO₂ annually—essentially all of the cement plant’s emissions—by 2030, combining CCS with increased bio-fuel use and transport of liquified CO₂ via an upgraded harbor to North Sea storage. However, in November 2025 the company paused the project after the Swedish Energy Agency rejected its grant application under the Industriklivet program, citing lack of state support as a critical barrier.
