VAIA

The Vicat VAIA carbon capture project is a decarbonization initiative at Vicat’s Montalieu-Vercieu cement plant in Isère, France, designed to capture, transport, and permanently store up to 1.2 million tonnes of CO₂ per year. The captured CO₂ will be moved via an existing pipeline converted into a “carboduc” to a liquefaction terminal at Fos-sur-Mer, where it will be liquefied and injected into geological storage formations under long-term sequestration arrangements with specialist partners including SPSE, Elengy, RTE, and ENI. VAIA is part of Vicat’s broader industrial decarbonization strategy under the “From Low Carbon to Zero Carbon” roadmap and is being advanced with planned applications for European and French public funding to support construction and deployment.
