Varennes Carbon Recycling

Enerkem’s VCR facility (Varennes, Québec) aims to convert non-recyclable waste and residual biomass into biomethanol using its proprietary waste-to-chemical technology. The process combines carbon from waste feedstocks with green hydrogen (generated on-site via a 90 MW electrolyzer to synthesize biomethanol. The plant is designed to process over 200,000 tonnes per year of waste and residual biomass beginning in 2026.
