Vaxjo Energi Plant CCS

The Växjö Energi Carbon Capture Project is a demonstration of industrial carbon capture technology at the biomass-fired district heating plant in Växjö, Sweden. The project tests modular capture systems designed to extract CO₂ from flue gas produced by biomass combustion, enabling removal of biogenic carbon that would otherwise be emitted. Japan-based Sumitomo SHI FW is supplying capture technology as part of a pilot collaboration with Växjö Energi, and CapSol has deployed mobile carbon capture units at the site including a third mobile unit to support real-world evaluation of capture performance under operating conditions. The use of mobile units allows flexible testing of capture capacity and integration strategies on the plant’s existing flue gas streams.
