Voestalpine Linz Carbon Capture Project

CMS (Compact Membrane Systems) and steel producer Voestalpine have partnered to deploy the Optiperm™ carbon capture technology in a pilot project at Voestalpine’s plant in Linz, Austria. Beginning in Q4 2023, the pilot will capture CO₂ from flue gases under real industrial conditions, aiming to validate the technology’s efficiency, energy consumption, and operational feasibility. The Optiperm™ system is designed to use relatively low energy and rely solely on “ecologically clean” electricity. This pilot is part of Voestalpine’s broader decarbonization roadmap, which includes replacing blast furnaces with electric arc furnaces and working toward carbon neutrality by 2050.
