Waggaman Carbon Capture

The Waggaman carbon capture project is being developed at the CF Industries ammonia production facility in Waggaman, Louisiana, which produces roughly 880,000 metric tons of ammonia per year. The project was originally advanced by Dyno Nobel under Incitec Pivot ownership, which completed front-end engineering and design work in 2022 for a capture system sized to handle up to approximately 950,000 metric tons of CO₂ annually. The design focused on capturing high-purity process CO₂ from the ammonia plant, compressing and dehydrating the gas, and transporting it by pipeline for permanent underground storage. Following CF Industries’ acquisition of the Waggaman facility in late 2023, the company assumed control of the carbon capture development. In March 2024, CF Industries announced the project had secured funding support from the US Department of Energy to help advance construction and deployment of the capture system.
