Albondigas

In June 2024, Equinor was awarded operatorship and 100% ownership of two new CO₂ storage licenses in the North Sea, named Albondigas and Kinno. Each site is expected to have capacity to store around 5 million tonnes of CO₂ per year, with precise volumes to be confirmed during the exploration phase. These licenses expand Equinor’s portfolio on the Norwegian Continental Shelf and are planned to complement the larger Smeaheia project. Together, they will connect into the proposed CO₂ Highway Europe system, designed to transport emissions from European industrial clusters to offshore storage, strengthening Norway’s role as a regional carbon storage hub.
