Aster
The Aster Class VI CO₂ sequestration permit application proposes a dedicated geologic storage project in Madison County, Indiana, operated by Vault GSL CCS Holdings LP. The project will permanently store captured CO₂ in the Cambrian Mt. Simon Sandstone, a regionally proven saline formation used for Class I, II, and VI injection, with containment provided primarily by the Eau Claire Shale, supported by multiple secondary confining layers . Under the permit, Aster plans to inject up to 359,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year over a 12-year operating period, for a total injected volume of approximately 4.31 million tonnes. CO₂ will be transported via a dedicated pipeline owned and operated by Vault GSL and injected in a supercritical state at depth to ensure efficient storage and plume stability. The well network includes one injection well (AST INJ1), a deep observation well, an above-confining-zone monitoring well, and a USDW monitoring well, providing continuous verification of containment performance and groundwater protection
