Entropy
Belle Plaine Carbon Hub
Entropy Inc., a subsidiary of Advantage Energy backed by Brookfield Asset Management and the Canada Growth Fund, has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the Belle Plaine Carbon Hub from Whitecap Resources, along with the North Battleford hub and a 50% stake in Rolling Hills. The transaction is valued at approximately CAD 20 million, with up to CAD 15 million in contingent milestone-based payments, and is expected to close in July 2025. Funding will come through convertible debentures issued under existing strategic investment agreements, without drawing capital from Advantage Energy. Originally developed by Whitecap, the Belle Plaine Carbon Hub is a large-scale project in Saskatchewan designed to capture and sequester CO₂ from industrial emitters in the Regina–Moose Jaw–Belle Plaine corridor. It integrates capture, transport via pipeline, and permanent injection into deep saline formations such as the Deadwood Formation, with regulatory approval to store more than 20 million tonnes of CO₂. Construction began in 2022, with operations anticipated to start by late 2025 or early 2026. The acquisition strengthens Entropy’s position as a leader in Western Canada’s CCS sector, adding critical storage capacity and infrastructure to support its growing modular carbon capture technology.
