Bennett Ranch Unit

The Bennett Ranch Unit (BRU) is a large CO₂-enhanced oil recovery (CO₂-EOR) project located within the Wasson San Andres Field on the Northwest Shelf of the Permian Basin in Yoakum County, Texas. Operated by Occidental (Oxy) subsidiaries, the project targets the Permian-age San Andres Formation, a dolomitized carbonate platform reservoir characterized by layered porosity, high lateral continuity, and favorable conditions for miscible CO₂ flooding. The Wasson Field is one of the largest oil fields in the United States and transitioned from primary depletion and extensive waterflooding to tertiary recovery using CO₂ injection beginning in the late 20th century. The Bennett Ranch Unit forms part of a broader integrated CO₂ flood system across multiple units within the Wasson Field, including the Denver Unit, Willard Unit, and Wasson ODC Unit. CO₂ injection enhances recovery by mobilizing residual oil and maintaining reservoir pressure while simultaneously storing significant volumes of CO₂ in the subsurface.
