Bonaparte CCS (Santos)

Santos, in partnership with Chevron Australia and SK E&S, holds the greenhouse gas assessment permit G-11-AP, spanning approximately 26,239 km² in the Bonaparte Basin. Under this permit, Santos plans to conduct an appraisal drilling campaign involving up to three wells, along with comprehensive environmental, social, economic, and cultural assessments. These activities are designed to evaluate the area's suitability for CO₂ storage, particularly focusing on subsurface structure and potential reservoir and seal integrity. To support future carbon storage deployment, Santos also plans a 3D marine seismic survey within the permit area. This survey will provide high-resolution imaging to identify and grade potential injection well locations and establish a baseline for future monitoring. The results will inform decisions on CO₂ injection feasibility and infrastructure planning in this expansive offshore region.
