Bow River Hub

The Bow River Hub is a proposed carbon storage hub in Alberta, collaboratively developed by Inter Pipeline and Entropy. Located north of Calgary, the project targets deep geological formations in the Winterburn and Woodbend Groups—well-suited for permanent CO₂ sequestration—and aims for an initial storage capacity of about 5 million tonnes per year. As part of Alberta’s second competitive selection round for carbon storage hubs, it secured tenure rights over approximately 106,000 hectares, including the Cochrane Extraction Plant site, where captured CO₂ is set to be injected into a newly drilled well with full monitoring systems and environmental safeguards in place. This project was one of the 19 selected in 2022 by the Government of Alberta to evaluate pore space for carbon storage, as part of the province’s initiative to advance cost-effective, open-access CO₂ sequestration hubs.
