Brazeau Carbon Sequestration Hub

The Brazeau Carbon Sequestration Hub is a proposed carbon storage project in Alberta, located west of Edmonton and led by Tidewater Midstream & Infrastructure. It encompasses a vast lease area exceeding 497,000 hectares and targets the Wabamun Formation—an established geological layer recognized for its porous dolomitic characteristics favorable for secure CO₂ injection and long-term storage. The hub is envisioned to serve emissions from nearby Tidewater operations, including a natural gas processing complex and planned blue hydrogen facilities, with an anticipated annual capture and sequestration capacity of around 31,000 tonnes of CO₂. This project was one of the 19 selected in 2022 by the Government of Alberta to evaluate pore space for carbon storage, as part of the province’s initiative to advance cost-effective, open-access CO₂ sequestration hubs.
