Brazos Offshore CCS Hub

In 2023, ExxonMobil was the high bidder on 69 offshore blocks in the Gulf of Mexico during Lease Sale 259, strategically targeting shallow-water tracts near the Texas coast for future carbon capture and storage (CCS) rather than oil and gas development. The acreage is positioned close to the Houston Ship Channel and major industrial CO₂ sources, making it well-suited for integration into Exxon’s growing Gulf Coast CCS network.
