Aera Energy
CarbonFrontier
The CarbonFrontier CCS Project is a large-scale carbon capture and storage development in Kern County, California, led by Aera Energy in partnership with California Resources Corporation (CRC). The project is designed to permanently store up to 40 million metric tons of CO₂ in the 64 Zone saline reservoir beneath the North Belridge oilfield. Plans call for the construction of up to nine Class VI injection wells, along with monitoring wells and approximately 14 miles of new CO₂ pipeline infrastructure. CO₂ will be captured from existing produced gas streams and stationary post-combustion sources within the Belridge Field before being injected into deep saline formations. The project covers more than 13,000 acres and is envisioned as the anchor for a regional “carbon park,” providing decarbonization pathways for industrial emitters in California’s Central Valley. Environmental reviews are ongoing under California’s CEQA process, with Class VI permitting applications filed to the EPA.
