Central Sumatera

Mitsui & Co. and Indonesia’s state energy firm Pertamina have partnered on a feasibility study to assess the carbon capture and storage potential in the Rokan Block, a major onshore oil and gas region in Central Sumatra. The initiative explores storing CO₂ in depleted fields such as Duri and Minas, capitalizing on existing infrastructure and geological data, to establish a cost-effective CCUS value chain. It also evaluates capturing CO₂ from industrial and power generation sources, with potential to transport CO₂ both domestically and internationally via shipping routes
