Cottonwood CCS Hub
The Cottonwood CCS Hub is a proposed carbon capture and storage (CCS) initiative targeting central Texas, specifically northwest of Waco in Bosque County. It aims to provide a sustainable emissions solution for manufacturers, power generators, and other industrial sources in the region. CO₂ emissions from these facilities would be captured on-site and then transported to secure underground storage formations. The project underscores a commitment to meeting regulatory demands, supporting economic stability, and offering mutual benefits to local communities and landowners. The project timeline is structured into four key phases. The development phase (2–3 years) includes land acquisition, engineering and environmental studies, permitting, and securing emissions agreements. The construction phase (1 year) involves drilling injection wells and constructing pipeline connections to CO₂ emitters. Following this, the project enters a 30-plus-year operational phase, featuring continuous monitoring of the storage site.
