California Resources Corp / Carbon TerraVault
CTV IV
The Carbon TerraVault IV (CTV IV) project, led by California Resources Corporation, is a Class VI carbon storage hub in Sacramento County, California. Designed to serve multiple industrial sources—including biofuels, power, and direct air capture—the project will use dedicated pipelines and wells to store nearly pure CO₂ in deep sandstone formations with high porosity and permeability, sealed by thick shale and anhydrite layers. In May 2023, CRC applied for a Class VI permit for 34 million tonnes of permanent CO₂ storage at the CTV IV reservoir. With multiple injection and monitoring wells planned, the project is positioned as a cornerstone hub for large-scale carbon sequestration in the Sacramento Basin.
