California Resources Corp / Carbon TerraVault
CTV VI
The Carbon TerraVault VI (CTV VI) Project, developed by California Resources Corporation (CRC), is a CO₂ storage facility proposed for Central California. In August 2024, CRC submitted a permit application to the EPA for a reservoir with an estimated total storage capacity of ~102 million metric tons of CO₂. Injection will target multiple sand-rich intervals within the San Joaquin Basin, at depths sufficient for supercritical CO₂ storage, with thick shale units providing regional-scale confinement. The project is planned as a multi-well development, with injection wells supported by monitoring wells designed to track pressure, plume migration, and groundwater quality. CRC anticipates CO₂ streams from multiple anthropogenic sources, including natural gas power generation, refineries, biofuels, and potential future direct air capture (DAC) facilities.
