Donghae-1 Gas Field CCS

The Donghae-1 Gas Field CCS project in South Korea is a carbon capture and storage initiative repurposing a depleted offshore gas field in the East Sea for long-term CO₂ storage. Led by Korea National Oil Corporation (KNOC), the project aims to store captured CO₂ in the Donghae-1 reservoir following the end of gas production in 2021. It was awarded government support in 2022 and represents South Korea’s first offshore CCS project, designed to help meet national decarbonization goals by demonstrating secure offshore injection and storage of CO₂.
