Shell
El Camino
The El Camino CCS Project, developed by Shell U.S. Gas and Power, is located in St. Helena Parish, Louisiana and designed as a hub-scale storage site for Shell facilities and regional emitters. The project will inject CO₂ with >97% purity into the Frio, Wilcox, and Lower Tuscaloosa formations at depths of 3,700–15,000 feet. Development includes multiple Class VI injection wells supported by monitoring wells, with site characterization informed by two stratigraphic test wells. Planned operations cover a 20-year injection period, with projected storage capacity in the tens of millions of tonnes and long-term post-closure monitoring to ensure secure containment.
