Endurance

The Endurance Project, operated by BP through the Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP) with partners Equinor, TotalEnergies, and National Grid Ventures, is located in the UK North Sea, about 75 km off the coast of Teesside and East Yorkshire, beneath a deep Triassic Bunter Sandstone saline aquifer sealed by the Haisborough Group mudstones. Following the award of the first-ever UK CO₂ storage permit, construction is slated to begin in mid‑2025, with the first CO₂ injection expected in 2027 and full operational ramp-up by 2028. Endurance is initially permitted to inject 4 million tonnes of CO₂ per year, with an average well injection rate of approximately 1 Mt per annum across four active injection wells (with a fifth observation well planned). Over a 25‑year lifespan, the project could store up to 100 million tonnes of CO₂, contributing to the UK’s East Coast Cluster decarbonization (including Net Zero Teesside and Zero Carbon Humber projects). Infrastructure will include an onshore CO₂ gathering network, a 145 km offshore pipeline, subsea manifolds, and six subsea wells (five injectors and one monitor), all designed to meet the UK's 2050 net-zero ambitions.
