Grass Creek

The Grass Creek Field is a large mature oil field located in Hot Springs County, Wyoming, within the Bighorn Basin. Production targets multiple reservoirs including Tensleep Sandstone and Phosphoria Formation carbonates, characterized by structural trapping along a prominent anticline associated with Laramide deformation. Discovered in the early 1900s, the field underwent primary production followed by waterflooding prior to tertiary recovery implementation. CO₂ injection has been applied to improve recovery from remaining oil saturation through miscible displacement, particularly within high-permeability sandstone intervals. Injection is conducted through Class II wells using pattern flood configurations, with CO₂ sourced from regional Rocky Mountain infrastructure. Retained CO₂ contributes to long-term geologic storage through structural and residual trapping mechanisms.
