Greenstore

The Greenstore Carbon Storage Project is Denmark's first onshore CCS initiative, officially awarded in June 2024 to a consortium consisting of Harbour Energy (40%), INEOS Energy (40%), and state-owned Nordsøfonden (20%). It targets geological storage in the Gassum area between Randers and Hobro, leveraging Denmark’s subsurface suitability and built on decades of experience in underground operations. Over the coming years, the consortium will conduct detailed investigations—including extensive seismic surveys starting in autumn 2025 and later appraisal drilling—to assess the underground formations several thousand meters below ground. If successful, Greenstore could potentially store up to 5 million tonnes of CO₂ annually, providing affordable regional carbon storage solutions for heavy industries in Jutland and aiding Denmark in meeting its ambitious climate goals.
