Havstjerne
The Havstjerne carbon storage project in Denmark is a large-scale offshore CCS initiative being developed by TotalEnergies, BlueNord, and Nordsøfonden. Located in the Danish North Sea, Havstjerne aims to repurpose depleted oil and gas reservoirs for long-term CO₂ storage. The partners plan to leverage existing offshore infrastructure to accelerate development, making the project both cost-efficient and scalable. Havstjerne is expected to contribute significantly to Denmark’s national goal of storing up to 4–8 million tonnes of CO₂ per year by 2030. Early-stage activities focus on detailed subsurface assessments and regulatory approvals, with offshore injection targeted to begin later this decade. By combining international CCS expertise with Danish energy transition goals, Havstjerne positions itself as a cornerstone project in Northern Europe’s emerging CO₂ storage market.
