Jatibarang

JOGMEC, in collaboration with Pertamina and Pertamina EP (PEP), launched a CO₂ injection pilot at the Jatibarang oil field in West Java on October 26, 2022. The project is testing the “huff and puff” method, combining Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) with Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS). The objective is to evaluate how effectively CO₂ can boost oil production from a mature reservoir while also assessing the potential for safe, long-term underground storage of captured emissions. This marks Pertamina’s first field-scale CO₂ injection project and JOGMEC’s second in Southeast Asia following an earlier pilot in Vietnam. The program is also part of broader efforts to advance CCUS technology in Asia, supporting the development of regional infrastructure and knowledge for carbon management and low-carbon energy transition.
