Kaupang CCS

The Kaupang CCS Project is a proposed carbon capture and storage initiative offshore Norway, aimed at supporting large-scale decarbonization of regional industries. The project is being advanced by Equinor, along with partners, to provide a secure and permanent CO₂ storage solution beneath the Norwegian Continental Shelf. Kaupang CCS is designed to serve as a hub for industrial emitters across Europe, capturing CO₂ from multiple sectors and transporting it for injection into deep geological formations. With its strategic North Sea location, the project could become a key component of Europe’s emerging CCS infrastructure, enabling cross-border CO₂ transport and long-term storage. Once developed, Kaupang CCS has the potential to store tens of millions of tonnes of CO₂ annually, making it one of the significant CCS projects in Norway’s pipeline. It aligns with the country’s ambition to lead in carbon management and help meet both Norwegian and EU climate targets.
