KeyState Natural Gas Synthesis

The KeyState Natural Gas Synthesis project in West Keating Township, Clinton County, is Appalachia’s first commercial-scale carbon capture and storage initiative. Set on a sprawling 7,000-acre site, this integrated facility will produce low-carbon hydrogen (“H2Blue”) synthesized from methane, with the resulting CO₂ captured and permanently stored in underground geological formations on-site. The operation will also generate lower-emission ammonia and automotive-grade urea (for diesel exhaust treatment), enabling up to a 90% reduction in smog-forming emissions. The project’s vertically integrated design—from natural gas extraction through product synthesis and CO₂ sequestration.
