Lion Diamond 'M' Unit
The Lion Diamond “M” Unit is a mature oil field redevelopment project located in the Scurry County / Horseshoe Atoll trend of the Permian Basin, West Texas, targeting carbonate reservoirs within the Canyon Reef interval. The field historically produced from structurally controlled reef buildups associated with the Horseshoe Atoll carbonate platform, similar to neighboring SACROC, Cogdell, Reinecke, and Sharon Ridge CO₂-EOR projects. Initial development occurred during the late 1940s with primary production followed by early water injection programs beginning in the 1950s; however, secondary recovery was considered poorly optimized due to reservoir compartmentalization and heterogeneity. Subsequent redevelopment efforts identified remaining oil potential through infill drilling, deeper reef intervals, and eventual CO₂ flood implementation aimed at tertiary recovery. The miscible CO₂ flood strategy leverages analog performance from adjacent Canyon Reef units where tertiary injection significantly increased recovery factors. Estimated OOIP has been cited around ~147 MMBO with historic recovery near ~30%, highlighting significant remaining tertiary potential.
