Orion
The Orion Project is a carbon capture and storage initiative that plans to start CO₂ injection in 2031, with an initial capacity of 1 million tonnes per year. Over time, storage volumes are expected to increase to 6 million tonnes annually. The project will make use of depleted gas reservoirs in the decommissioned Amethyst field and the still-producing West Sole field, providing secure long-term geological storage. To support operations, Orion will utilize existing infrastructure, including the Dimlington Terminal and key pipelines in the Humberside region. By reusing this established network, the project aims to deliver cost-effective CO₂ transport and storage while complementing other CCS projects in the area. Orion is designed for an operational lifespan of around 30 years, offering significant capacity to support large-scale decarbonization efforts in the region.
