Prinos
The Prinos CO₂ Storage Project will repurpose existing oil and gas infrastructure in the Prinos field offshore northeastern Greece into a large-scale carbon storage facility. In its initial phase, beginning in late 2025, the project will use existing wells and platforms to inject up to 1 million tonnes of CO₂ per year. A second commercial phase, expected by 2027–2028, will expand capacity to around 3 million tonnes annually through upgraded infrastructure capable of handling both compressed and liquefied CO₂. The project has secured significant financial support through grants from the Greek government and the European Union, including funding for a new CO₂ liquefaction and receiving terminal. Recognized as a Project of Common Interest by the EU, Prinos is scheduled for commissioning by 2028, with construction taking place between 2025 and 2028 and a Final Investment Decision planned for 2026.
