Reinecke Unit
The Reinecke Unit is a mature CO₂-enhanced oil recovery (CO₂-EOR) project located in the Horseshoe Atoll trend of the Permian Basin, primarily in Mitchell County, Texas, west of Snyder. The field produces from Pennsylvanian-age Canyon Reef carbonate reservoirs, representing reefal buildups associated with the Horseshoe Atoll carbonate platform. After extensive primary production and waterflood operations, the field was redeveloped using miscible CO₂ injection to recover remaining oil trapped within heterogeneous reef facies and compartmentalized flow units. CO₂ flooding leverages analog performance from nearby atoll fields such as SACROC, Cogdell, and Diamond M, where tertiary recovery significantly increased recovery factors. The Reinecke Unit operates as part of the broader Permian Basin CO₂-EOR infrastructure network supplied by regional pipelines delivering naturally sourced CO₂ from Rocky Mountain domes. The project combines incremental oil recovery with long-term CO₂ storage within deep carbonate reservoirs.
