San Juan Basin Sequestration

The San Juan Basin Carbon Sequestration Project, led by Four Corners Carbon Storage, LLC (an affiliate of Tallgrass Energy), is located in San Juan County, New Mexico, on the northwest edge of the San Juan Basin. The project will capture and store CO₂ from regional industrial sources and inject it into the Entrada Sandstone, a Jurassic eolian sandstone formation with high porosity and permeability. The Summerville and Todilto formations provide the primary confining zones above the Entrada, while deeper units including the Carmel and Chinle formations act as secondary seals. The project’s development plan calls for at least one dedicated injection well (Injector 1) and a co-located monitoring well (Monitor 1), supported by the Strat 1 test well drilled under the DOE CarbonSAFE program.
