Sunda Asri Basin

The Pertamina–ExxonMobil CCS project pertains to a planned carbon capture and storage development in the Sunda-Asri Basin offshore Southeast Sumatra. The Indonesian Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment has confirmed that a final investment decision (FID) for the project is expected by 2026, with drilling appraisal activities scheduled for 2024. Pertamina, together with ExxonMobil, has identified the basin’s carbon storage potential at around 2 gigatonnes of CO₂. National estimates indicate an even broader capability, placing Indonesia’s total oil and gas basin storage potential at up to 400 gigatonnes.
